
David Lockeridge
Percussion
David Lockeridge is a freelance percussionist based in Sydney.
Graduating with a Bachelor of Music with class one honours in 2010, David then moved onto researching and earning the degree of Masters of Philosophy in Percussion Research in 2014 at the University of Newcastle’s Conservatorium of Music.
David keeps a busy schedule performing in multiple areas of the music industry with recent commercial engagements including the Sydney and Queensland seasons of Bring it on the Musical, Wallace and Gromit’s Musical Marvels at the Sydney Opera House, the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics on channel 9, Christmas with Mark Vincent, Giocondas Smile at City Recital Hall and Peter Cousens show, My Musical Life. David is now constantly touring with veteran percussion ensemble Btutta throughout Australia for Musica Viva, with this year seeing tours to Queensland and Western Australia.
David is in demand as a soloist and is constantly performing new and challenging works for percussion. Recently solo performances have been the Music and the Mind Conference in Perth, Multiple regional conservatoriums for their professional arts series, the Newcastle Conservatorium of music to perform the David Gillgham Marimba Concerto and the Art of Sound Series for Western Sydney University.
Since 2012 David has been touring and performing in the new music group Translucent Duo. Now with their first album and concerto premiered, there are multiple performances lined up over the rest of 2017 and international engagements booked for 2018.
David has performed multiple premieres of new works for percussion with a major highlight being his first commissioned concerto by Gerard Brophy, which was won through funding from the Australian Arts Council.
With a passion for educating David teaches percussionist’s in the Bachelor of Music degree at the University of New South Wales. Since 2015 David has worked with the NSW Symphonic Wind Ensemble, NSW Symphony Orchestra and the School Spectacular Orchestra based at Arts Unit, a specialists arm of the department of education that focuses on the arts. Every year David attends and works with public education students throughout the state at week long music camps and concert series, a passion he has had since he attended the camps himself as a student.
