Bass-Bariton

Joseph Pleuss is a bass-baritone who has sung with notable companies such as Staatsoper Unter den Linden, San Diego Opera, and Washington National Opera as well as more intimate companies such as Passaggio Oper (Berlin), Alltagsoper (Berlin), DC Public Opera (Washington DC), Opera Camarata (Washington DC), Northern Virginia Opera (Arlington, Virginia), and Hub Opera (Hagerstown, Maryland).

Joseph Pleuss is primarily known for his portrayal of the major Mozart bass roles Leporello and Don Giovanni (Don Giovanni), Figaro and Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), and Don Alfonso (Cosi fan tutte). 

Other roles within Joseph’s repertoire include Dulcamara from L’elisir d’amore  (Donizetti), Pagano from I Lombardi alla prima crociata (Verdi), Truffaldino from Ariadne auf Naxos (Strauss), Schaunard and Colline from La bohème (Puccini), and Angelotti from Tosca (Puccini).


Joseph Pleuss received a Masters in Music degree in Vocal Performance from California State University Northridge (Los Angeles, California)  and a Bachelors degree in Music from Edgewood College (Madison, Wisconsin).  He has had the opportunity to work with such esteemed conductors as Daniel Barenboim, Sir Simon Rattle, and Richard Bonynge.  He is currently based in Berlin, Germany where he lives with his wife.
