Mylinda Joyce

dramatic soprano

Mylinda Joyce is fast establishing herself as one of the most exciting young Dramatic Sopranos in Australia. As the first Australian Soprano to be offered a position with the New York Wagner Theatre Program, Mylinda recently began her Wagnerian journey with the role of Gerhilde in Die Walküre. Upon her return to Australia, Mylinda made her debut in the title role of Tosca to much acclaim; “Mylinda Joyce was truly magnificent... Her acting ability was beyond reproach”. In the 2013 Melbourne Ring Festival, Mylinda performed excerpts of Brünnhilde and Sieglinde in The.Ring.Wagner.Animated at the Melbourne Recital Centre. More recently Mylinda sang the role of Giorgetta in Il Tabarro with Sydney’s Harbour City Opera.

 

A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), Mylinda was as an inaugural member of the Victorian Opera 'Artist Development Program', where she performed extensively in Concert and Recital. Her completion of the Program culminated in her Operatic debut in the role of Fiordiligi in Mozart's Cosi' fan tutte. For the Victorian Opera, Mylinda has since covered the role of Donna Elvira in Mozart's Don Giovanni and Mrs Grose in Benjamin Britten’s Turn of the Screw. 2010 saw Mylinda join the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for an Opera Gala in the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, performing Wagner, Verdi & Mascagni.

 

For Opera Australia Mylinda has performed in Verdi's Aida and Otello, Puccini’s Turandot, Lehar’s The Merry Widow, Bizet’s Carmen and Wagner’s Götterdämmerung. Mylinda has featured in both Melbourne City Opera's The Pavarotti story and the Puccini Story performing scenes from Tosca, Il Trovatore (Leonora) and La Boheme (Musetta), and Madama Butterfly (Cio-Cio San).

 

On the concert platform Mylinda has performed extensively, most notably as Soprano Soloist in Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem, Rachmaninov's 'The Bells' and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. Awarded the Dame Joan Sutherland Arts Prize by the American Australian Association in 2011, Mylinda has enjoyed success in many of Australia's most prestigious singing Competitions, having been selected as a finalist in Australian Singing Competition – Mathy Awards, the Audi German Opera Grant, the Lady Fairfax New York Opera Award and the Italian Opera Award. Mylinda has also been named the ‘Young Achiever of the Year’ by the Rotary Club of Melbourne for her performance achievements. During her studies at the VCA Mylinda was the recipient of many singing prizes including the prestigious Lowrey Arts Scholarship – as awarded by the Acclaim Awards. Mylinda also performs regularly as a Guest Artist for various Corporate and Charity Organisations throughout Australia.
