Susie Bishop
soprano/violin
Susie Bishop is a prominent vocalist and multi-instrumentalist in the Sydney
music scene. After receiving her Bachelor of Creative Arts in Drama with
distinction in 2005 at the University of Wollongong, she was accepted into the
RNCM where she obtained her Mmus in Opera in 2010. Alongside this training
she continued with her rigorous classical studies on violin which she had first
started at age four.
Her interests and skills in performance are wide-ranging, and she regularly performs and tours with some of Sydney's highest profile ensembles in both her capacities as violinist and singer, with a music career that is quickly picking
up momentum.
Her operatic engagements have included a recital series at the Independent
Theatre in 2013, touring with The Song Company and performing as soloist
with Marais Ensemble. Her other collaborations include guesting as violinist
and vocalist with multi-ARIA award winning ensemble Monsieur Camembert,
performing at the prestigious MONA FOMA festival in Hobart as violinist with
the Hinterlandt ensemble and performing with new early music jazz fusion
enemble Elysian Fields as vocalist and violinist.
She has also co-founded and recorded two albums with world-influenced
fusion ensemble Chaika, recorded another album and received a Jumpstart
grant to study in Argentina with Sydney based tango quintet Tangalo, and
composed a duo album in collaboration with her sister Laura Bishop.
Having grown up in the world of folk music, she has always been inspired by
the simple beauty and enduring power of world music from the aural
traditions. She is delighted to bring this programme of music from wide
ranging ethnic origin to the stage for these two recitals.
